Legacy Internship Program
“Practical Applications: Book Design, Editing, Graphic Art, Book Production and Marketing”
The Legacy program is an unpaid internship for educational purposes, work experience, or college credits.
• Internship Length: 160 to 200 Hours – 10-12 Weeks; Monday-Friday. Must be available, at least, 3 days a week.
• Work is done on-site at the Legacy office in Winter Park, Florida
• Supervised by the Company President.
• Certificate of Completion and/or recommendation letter provided at the end of the internship.
The work will be related to book publishing creation, production, and marketing in the commercial marketplace including direct sales, Internet and bookstores both chains and independents. If you are thinking to start a new business, you may be interested in these tips of how to start a business.
Tasks and Assignments Include:
Book Cover Design
- Color choices for best background, fonts, and images
- Positioning for the highest attraction to consumer
- Set up parameters for book manufacturing
- How to write a back cover copy that sells
- Placement of description, author info, or endorsements on back covers
Marketing Concepts Addressed:
- Copywriting that intrigues and persuades
- Campaign concepts and Demographics
- Press release to National TV interview processes
- Direct mail – Postal or Internet?
- Flyers, Posters, Post Cards Applications
- Distributors, Wholesalers, Catalogs, Licensing Global
Book Design
- Addressing the parts of a book and the proper order
- Layout solutions for demographics
- Layout function vs. elaboration
- Type choices vs. Font choices for practical design

Part-Time Publisher’s Assistant (Winter Park)

Compensation: $11-$12 per hour to start – will increase depending on experience
Employment type: part-time
I DO NOT need someone to do payroll, bookkeeping or Data Entry.
Local Book Publishing Company has an immediate need for part time assistant. They will also
help with organizing new submissions and other book creation related administrative tasks.
The applicant MUST LOVE BOOKS. Organizational skills is a HUGE PLUS!
The assistant will work approximately 20-25 hours per week (Mon-Thurs 10-4 preferred).
Excellent writing ability is a plus, such as proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Strong use of the English language is essential.
Requirements include:
+ Candidate must be able to manage new clientele
+ Must have a clear speaking voice as well as excellent phone skills
+ Follow-up with authors, vendors, and/or printers via phone and email
+Applicant must have a pleasant temperament and willingness to multi-task efficiently
+ Must be great with customers, show patience and a willingness to help our authors
+ Must be proactive to learn the general operation of our Book Publishing Company!
+ Must show ability to effectively manage schedules of many book projects
+ Must be computer literate (Microsoft office, email and social media)
+ Must be punctual and reliable
Characteristics of the Ideal Candidate:
• Years of office administrative experience
• Professional customer service skills
• Highly organized, detail oriented, dependable
• Strong computer skills – Word, Outlook, and/or social media (WordPress)
• English/Creative Writing major gaining experience in publishing or editing field
Part-Time Proofreader/Editor
Compensation: $12.00 per hour part-time.
Employment type: part-time
Local Book Publishing Company immediately needs part-time proofreader/editors. This will be a contract-based position, and compensation will be based on project difficulty. Will be responsible for proofreading and editing various types of books: biographies, novels, etc. The applicant MUST LOVE BOOKS. Organizational skills is a HUGE PLUS!
Requirements include:
+ Must be able to proofread/edit books within the set time frame.
+ Candidate must be able to relay to authors content language, writing style, and fact-checking
+ Must communicate in a clear speaking voice
+ Must be able to understand and evaluate the audience and language the work is targeting.
+ Must be punctual and reliable
Ideal Candidate:
• Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in English, Creative Writing, Communication, or a related field.
• A genuine interest in books and publishing.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and dependable with sharp attention to detail.
• Strong computer skills – Word, Outlook, and/or social media (WordPress)
• Interest in commercial fiction, biography, and children’s books: “Books inspiring virtuous characters”
• Interested in obtaining college credit hours for the first 10 weeks of employment.
• Ability to write in Spanish is a plus
